Entry #1: Why you should volunteer

One hobby that I enjoy doing in my free time is volunteering. I first started volunteering in my sophomore year of high school for this club I was in but ever since, I've enjoyed doing it. Volunteering makes me happy because I am helping others and doing good to the community! Community service is good to do because it benefits both you and the community, which can make the world a better place.

Volunteering is important because it teaches you responsibility and creates a lasting impact on others. Some community service that I've done include volunteering for Feed My Starving Children which is a non-profit organization where I helped with the packaging of food for children and families in need and when I helped children find the perfect sized coats for them to wear in the winter at an elementary school. Seeing the smiles on their faces made my day because I knew I was making a big impact their lives.

By volunteering, you can make a big difference in other people's lives and give back to the community. You can also gain many skills from volunteering which can be good for any career you want to go into and if you don't know what you want to do, it can also help you decide what kind of career you want to pursue. According to Western Connecticut State University, volunteering is the perfect way to gain experience in your area of interest, connect with others in the same field and helps you build important skills you would need to use in that workplace. These skills can include good communication skills, teamwork, managing tasks and problem solving.

Volunteering not only lets you help others and help gain new skills, but it can also help you gain self-confidence and improve your mental health by keeping you occupied, which reduces stress and anxiety. If you are interested in doing community service, you can go to Idealist, which is a website that helps you find volunteering opportunities in your area.

Overall, volunteering has taught me a lot. I have learned how to become a better person and look at the world differently. I think you can also learn a lot from volunteering yourself and you should try if you haven't already! You won't regret it!!!

  1. Hey Salina! I also agree that volunteer and community service are great things to participate in. Me and my dad have helped at Feed my Starving Children a couple times and I really enjoyed it; it made me happy knowing I was making someone's meal!

  2. I agree that the skills that you learn from volunteering like team work, communication, and problem solving are great skills to have as they do help you later in life when you are working. You are able to help foster a great working relationship with your co-workers and your managers if you are able to effectively communicate with them. I also agree that volunteering and community service are great things to participate in.
